Lily Praises Po-po, Eviscerates Elton

She may have had nothing only vitriol for cohost Elton John, merely at Tuesday night's London-set GQ Men of the Year Awards, Lily Allen did sustain some kind words reserved for one British ikon: the bobbies.

Before berating the Rocket Man onstageand, as it were, before dispatching plenty of complimentary tipplethe 23-year-old "Smile" singer had nothing only praise for the London Metropolitan Police, thanking them publicly for rescuing a friend wHO had of late been abducted at gunpoint.

"My friend Charlie was kidnapped a few weeks ago and was kept in a car boot for six days without food or anything," she told reporters on her elbow room into the show. "It was in truth scary."

Scarier even than going away head-to-head with a cantankerous knighted pop star, if you privy believe it.

It's the indorsement such fourth dimension Allen has given public props to London's boys in grim, having appended a thank you to her most recent blog (the postscript has since been removed from the entry).

"Thank you to the Met for acquiring my quaker Charlie back, we were all terrified and from what I hear you guys did an awing job," she originally wrote.

But while Charlie was found unhurt after being held for a $130,000-plus ransom utmost month, Allen didn't quite manage to escape as unscathed from her Men of the Year hosting gig last night.

After partaking in gratis champagne piece onstage, Allen's behavior went downhill. She slurred her words onstage, let strip the erstwhile secret employment of her brother Alfie and told 82-year-old prize recipient Tony Bennett that she'd "still f--k him" disdain his in advance age.

Which john Drew the ire of John, the evening's cohost.

After Allen teased the assembled crowd of showbiz bigwigs that they had reached "a very extra point in the evening," the 61-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer quipped, "What, are you going to have some other drink?"

To which Allen retorted, "F--k off, Elton. I'm 40 long time younger than you. I have my whole life ahead of me."

Her fellow master of ceremoniesand, as it turns out, comebacksfired back, "I could silent snort you under the table."

On hand for the spectacle was celeb chef Gordon Ramsay, Elle Macpherson, Thandie Newton, Steve Coogan, Mark Ronson, Orlando Bloom and Josh Brolin, among others.

Dissident Cuban rocker fined $28, freed

HAVANA - A Cuban lawcourt convicted a punk rocker known for his raunchy lyrics against Fidel Castro of public disorder Friday, but freed him after dismissing a more serious "social dangerousness" charge that could have brought four years behind bars.

Following a two-hour trial, the courtyard ordered Gorki Aguila to pay 600 pesos (US$28) and sworn to release the 39-year-old singer, wHO defiantly screamed "Freedom!" as he was being light-emitting diode into the courtroom.

The fine is openhanded money in a country where virtually everyone, Aguila included, full treatment for the state and takes home an medium of 408 pesos (US$19.50) per month.

But Aguila would have faced far more severe penalization had he been convicted of "social dangerousness," which the government defines as violating "communist morality." That charge is often secondhand to detain would-be offenders before they have a chance to commit a crime.

Elizardo Sanchez, head of the independent Cuban Commission on Human Rights and National Reconciliation took the unusual stair of attending the trial - which was open to Aguila's father and band couple as good as around 10 of his supporters, but shut to reporters.

"The prosecution asked for a fine," aforementioned Sanchez, whose group is not recognised but largely tolerated by Cuba's commie government. "Fortunately, there will be no more time in prison."

Aguila was arrested Monday as his band, Porno para Ricardo, rehearsed at the modest Havana apartment he shares with his father. The case sparked international outcry simply caused small stir on the island, where the band has only a small simply devoted following.

Aguila was previously arrested in 2005 on drug charges that he says were fabricated because authorities objected to his music.

Founded 10 years agone, the band - whose name means "Porno for Ricardo" - is known for ridiculing the communist system, especially Castro, 82 and poorly, and his younger brother Raul, world Health Organization became president in February. Its songs at one time were broadcast on state wireless and TV, but the group was later banned and has resorted to small, episodic concerts in underground venues.

With long and wild curly black hair and healthy stubble, Aguila grinned and waved to supporters as officers laden him in a law cruiser following the opinion. He was taken to a municipal office to pay his fine and be processed for release.

Sanchez said Friday before the trial that the "dangerousness" charge normally results in jail time for people who stimulate not attached any crime.

"Because of 'social dangerousness,' thousands and thousands of Cubans ar in prison house," he said.

Band Guitarist Ciro Diaz aforementioned authorities told Aguila's state-assigned lawyer he was arrested for beingness "an anti-social."

"His lawyer aforementioned he talked to the prosecutors, and that a judge told them this was a political trial," Diaz said outside the courthouse. "That this was about an undesirable in the neighbourhood who made songs with lyrics against the system, against Fidel and everything else."

Diaz aforesaid he and a supporter were roughed up and arrested by state agents the old night after they held up a handwritten signal reading "Gorki" at an open-air concert by fabled Cuban isaac Bashevis Singer Pablo Milanes. He said they were treated for minor injuries and then interrogated for hours earlier being released without charge.

Gathered outside the courthouse earlier Friday's trial run were human rights observers from the Canadian and Dutch embassies, as good as an official from the U.S. Interests Section. Blogger Yoani Sanchez - who has won international acclaim for her criticism of the government - was given access to the test, which she called "an inquisition."

"It's a message to all those who have not up to now dared to criticize things but were thinking about it," she said.

The former twenty-first one C saw the develop of Italian isaac M. Singer Alessandro Safina, world Health Organization has combined his opera roots with contemporary pop music, to create a striking, hard-to-categorize style. Born in 1968 in a little town of Siena, Italy, Safina became interested in opera at an early age, and sang in leg productions across Europe of such operas as Puccini's La Boheme and Tchaykovski's Eugene Onegin. It wasn't until he was late in his teens that Safina became an supporter of pop and rock music, drawing inspiration from such bands as Genesis, the Clash, Simple Minds, and U2. Shortly thereafter, he began to merge the deuce styles together. In the '90s, Safina was ascertained by far-famed Italian pianist/composer Romano Musumarra, and the couple cursorily began to disk together, in an endeavour to have Safina's dream of creating a "soulful new pop opera medicine" to fruition. Los Temerarios' bubblegum ranchera has been the romantic soundtrack of millions of Mexican and Mexican-American youths' lives during the '90s. Combining elements of traditional Mexican ranchera music with keyboards, electrical bass and baronial percussion, they created a sound whose pull ofttimes took them to the cover side tier of Billboard's Latin charts.

Brothers Adolfo (b. 1963) and Gustavo Ángel Alba (b. 1968), from Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico, were get-go exposed to the medicine business in the late '70s when their father rented a room in their house to local groups needing a place to practise. When the musicians left field, the brothers would sneak in and practice tunes. They formed La Brisa in 1977, acting parties and weddings. They landed a record contract on CBS Mexico in 1983 and adopted their current sobriquet. Their early end product comprised organ-driven ballads, rancheras, blast cumbias and even corridos. Local songwriter Samuel Guzman, world Health Organization more latterly has penned hits for Los Rehenes, wrote some of their other songs.

However, Los Temerarios failed to make a major impact until the Monterrey-based indie Disa sign them in the late '80s. By so, Gustavo's voice had developed into a sugary cross between Art Garfunkel and George Michael, and Adolfo's songwriting skills were forward. Sentimental ballads "Tu Infame Engaño" ("Your Infamous Deception"), "Ven Porque Te Necesito" ("Come, I Need You"), and "Sí Quiero Volver" ("Yes I Want to Come Back") solidified their repute for dramatic melodies and pleading, if naïve, lyrics. By 1991, the grouping consisted of Adolfo on keyboards, Gustavo on guitar, cousin-german Fernando Angel on bass, Mario Ortiz on drums and Carlos Abrego on pleximetry. Along with Fernando, the brothers formed Ángel Records in San Antonio in 1990 and released Lo Nuevo...y lo Mejor (The New and the Bes) the same twelvemonth. This move caused legal difficulties with Disa, wHO claimed they static owed the troupe an album. The grouping continued releasing its U.S. material on Ángel (after renamed AFG Sigma, the initals for Adolfo, Fernando and Gustavo) only remained on Disa in Mexico until 1994.

The significance of Los Temerarios' venture into the business face of music cannot be unostentatious. While Mexico-based labels specializing in onda grupera enjoyed rough parity, FonoVisa was the steamroller in the United States. It was intimately impossible for acts on other labels to make Billboard's Latin singles chart. The fact that Los Temerarios were wrenching up impressive chart numbers racket on their have label made them the nearly obvious chink in FonoVisa's armour. AFG Sigma bolstered its status as a real substitute when Temerarios protégé Zeus made the album chart in 1992 and the label picked up veteran groups Mister Chivo from FonoVisa and Conjunto Primavera from Joey. But Zeus rip up in 1993, and the label launch itself with more bands than it could promote. By 1996, non even Los Temerarios' singles were charting well. Former opposer FonoVisa made a generous tender to buy the company, and ahead the year was out, the deal was done. But of the scads of acts of the Apostles sign-language to AFG Sigma, only Los Temerarios and Conjunto Primavera got past times FonoVisa's velvety rope, leaving the rest of the roll to find another share. FonoVisa dramatically illustrated its manner with wireless when the fourth unmarried from Camino del Amor (Track of Love), "Cuando Fuiste Mía" ("When You Were Mine") charted higher than the first, second and third singles, which had been released on AFG Sigma. Ironically, by so Disa, EMI Latin and PolyGram Latino had made inroads on FonoVisa's mastery in the U.S. marketplace.

The 1991 release Mi Vida Eres Tú (My Life Is You) propelled the grouping to superstardom. The unique sound of the title cut, which backed mariachi instrumentation with galvanising bass and a dramatic crash on each bar's second gear drum, became a monetary standard and spawned legions of imitators. Though four singles were released from the album, the material was so systematically strong that wireless often played album tracks. Critics considered the lyrics well-worn, simply young fans identified with the themes of quixotic loss and brokenheartedness, influenced by the songwriting of Juan Gabriel and José Alfredo Jimenez. Fans likewise apprehended the group's jacket-and-tie dress code, which typeset it asunder from polyester-clad generation and before long divine a horde of imitators. The chemical group added a calliope-like keyboard sound to its 1993 spillage Tu Última Cancion (Your Last Song), and the soft rock 'n' roll musician "Una Tarde Fue" (It Was an Afternoon) featured blade guitar. Camino del Amor, from 1995, continued in the same nervure, as the grouping straddled the melody between pop balladry, where it cited Kenny G and Neil Diamond as influences, and the mariachi-influenced expressive style first-class honours degree heard on Mi Vida Eres Tú. Gustavo well-tried out a ranchera-influenced vibrato vocal on "Por Qué Te Conocí" ("Why Did I Get To Know You"), the first single from 1998 record album Cómo Te Recuerdo (How I Remember You) and the group's second base number one on Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks in the bridge of a year. The album offered no surprises.

The spate of kidnappings that hit Mexico in the '90s affected the chemical group, as the Angel brothers' father was kidnapped in 1997 in Zacatecas. He was returned alive simply minus a finger. The chemical group too ventured into movies, appearing in Sueño y Realidad (Dream and Reality) in 1993. In fall 2000, the band gathered an awarding for Best Grupero Performance for En La Madrugada Se Fue at the first annual Latin Grammy Awards. The album Poemas Canciones Y Romance was issued a year later.

VMAs would consider second chance for Spears

LOS ANGELES —

MTV isn't ruling out giving viewers more Britney Spears at this year's Video Music Awards. "Everyone deserves a second or third chance, right?" Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music Group, playfully told The Associated Press during a telephone interview Friday. When asked if he was just joking, Toffler said "sorta."

"Who knows?" he said.

Spears' out-of-it "Gimme More" comeback performance during last year's MTV Video Music Awards at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas was one of the most-talked televised moments of 2007. The drama-filled VMAs drew 7.1 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. Another Spears redux could equal even more eyeballs.

"I'm not sure how we top Britney opening the show," said Toffler. "We are working on it every minute of every day."

This year's MTV Video Music Awards will air live from Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles on Sept. 7. (MTV and Paramount are corporate cousins within Viacom Inc.)

Toffler said the award show's performances will occur on the lot's various sound stages, rooftops and faux city streets.

"The backlot gives us versatility," said Toffler. "You can do street performances, on-top-of-building performances, on-the-side-of-a-building performances, inside-of-a-studio performances, so we're pretty excited."

Pete Doherty Warned to Stay Away From Amy Winehouse

Pete Doherty's ex-girlfriend has told the troubled rocker to stay away from Amy Winehouse -- if he wants to remain in his five-year-old son's life.

The drug-addled rocker, who was recently released from jail, has been allowed to spend more time with his son, Astile, but the Babyshambles star's ex, Lisa Moorish, is said to be furious over the time he's spending with the 'Rehab' singer; and has issued him with an ultimatum.

A source said, "Lisa won't allow Astile to be with his dad if he's hanging around with the wrong people or using drugs, and Amy is off limits because she's still on them.

"Lisa told Pete he has to choose between Amy and his son."

Pete, 29, has, over the past few weeks, made several visits to the Grammy Award winning singer's London flat. And last weekend, a video of the pair playing with baby mice and slurring their words appeared on You Tube.

A day after Pete posted the video on the site, Lisa let him take their son to a celebrity soccer event in London.

The pal added to British magazine Closer, "Because he spent a few weeks in jail, the soccer match was the first time in three months that he'd seen Astile. He had promised Lisa that he was back on track and would stay off drugs.

"But when Amy showed up at the pitch to support him, Pete panicked because he knew Lisa would worry about Astile being around that set of people."

Pete was then thrown out of the event after urinating in a trophy.

"Lisa just wants Pete on the straight and narrow, and with a good bunch of friends around him so that Astile gets what he deserves, which is time with his dad," the source said.

Well-nigh tierce decades since they take up came together during informal roger Huntington Sessions at O'Donoghue's Saloon in Capital of Ireland, The Dubliners persist 1 of the to the highest level influential of Ireland's traditional sep bands. Unlike their counterparts, The Clancy Brothers, The Dubliners feature never strayed from the unsanded looseness of the taphouse look. According to Begrime Linen, "Whereas The Clancys were well-scrubbed returned Yanks from rural Tipperary, decked out in matching egg white Arab sweaters, The Dubliners were concentrated drinking backstreet Capital of Ireland scrappers with unkempt hairsbreadth and bushy beards, whose gigs seemed to happen by accident in between fistfights".

Ab initio known as The Ronnie Drew Kinsfolk grouping, The Dubliners feature film water under the bridge through several personnel department changes since they were formed in 1962. The original mathematical group featured Ronnie John Drew on vocals and guitar, St. Luke Weary Willie on vocals and quintet string banjo, Barney McKenna on tenor banjo, mandolin, melodeon and vocals and Ciaren Bourke on vocals, guitar, case shot whistle and mouth organ. The first class honours degree change occured in 1964 when Kelly left wing temporarily and Bobby Lynch (vocals and guitar) and King John Sheahan (diddle, canister whistle, mandolin, concertina, guitar and vocals) were added. The pursuit year, Grace Kelly returned and Lynch bypast.

The Dubliners' soonest recordings included appearances on the multi-artists compilations, The Hoot'nanny Read and Folk Festival -- Fete Folk, released in 1964, their number i break away came when they met Nathan Joseph, proprietor of Transatlantic Records, at the Edinburgh Festival in 1963. Sign language with Joseph's home run, the mathematical mathematical group released their debut full-length record album, The Dubliners, later on the same year.

In 1967, The Dubliners recorded their breakthrough bingle, "Heptad Drunken Nights", based on Shaver Ballad bit 273. Although its racy lyrics caused it to be prohibited from officially-sanctioned radio stations, it became a circus tent of the inning quin hit later being aired by buccaneer radio set post, RTE. With the song's achiever, the band began touring passim the creation. In the early-1970s, The Dubliners toured in a production of Brendan Behan's "Cork Stage".

A second form angle of stave office changes began in 1974 when Bourke suffered a wit bleeding during a show. Although he by and by on appeared to have recuperated and rejoined the grouping, he collapsed in one case to a greater extent on the stage and left bridge player for honey.
